Vietnam’s National Assembly has finally approved today the development of a new and bigger international airport, the Long Thanh International Airport. It will be located in the Dong Nai province 50km from the existing Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. The new airport will be developed in three phases. It should be able to handle 100m passengers and 5m metric tonnes of cargo a year in its last phase. The total estimate for the project is D336.63trn (US$15.4bn). The first phase of construction is estimated to require D114.45trn (US$5.25bn). The huge project is allowed to be funded by the state budget, official development assistance, and also by developers and partners under the PPP scheme
